On the Windows desktop, your Windows background, double-click on My Computer then look for Dial-Up Networking.
If can not find Dial-Up Networking icon, please skip this section and proceed to Step 2, otherwise close the Dial-Up Networking window.
On the Windows desktop, double-click on My Computer then double-click on Control Panel.
Double-click on Add/Remove Programs and then click on the Windows Setup tab.
On the Windows desktop, double-click on My Computer then double-click on Control Panel.
Double-click on Add/Remove Programs and then click on the Windows Setup tab
Click on Ok, then Ok again. Windows might require you to insert your Windows 98 CD at this point.
Windows will briefly copy files, and prompt you to restart. Click on Yes, and wait for your computer to restart.
Congratulations, we're on our way.
We have now installed all the components Windows require to connect to Atlantic.
Creating a new Dial-Up Connection
Double-click on My Computer and then double-click on Dial-Up Networking.
If your modem has not yet been installed at this point, Windows will automatically start with your modem installation.
Please refer to modem manual or computer vendor if this happens.
Double-click on Make New Connection.
In Type a name for the computer you are dialing type @lantic, then click on Next.
In Telephone number, type 0860007249.
This is our national telephone number, and always charged as a local call.
Please note that area code should not be specified therefore must be empty.
Make sure Country code is South Africa (27).
Click on Next.
Now click on Finish.
We have just made an Internet connection. We now need to tell Windows how our specific connection works.
Setting up the dial-up connection:
You should now be back in the Dial-Up Networking window.
A new icon should have appeared called @lantic.
Now, click on this @lantic icon using the right mouse button.
A little window should appear, then click on Properties.
Remove the tick, un-tick, in front of Use country code and area code.
Click on Server type.
In Allowed network protocols, un-tick NetBEUI as well as IPX/SPX compatible.
Verify that only TCP/IP is ticked.
Click on TCP/IP settings.
In Allowed network protocols, un-tick NetBEUI as well as IPX/SPX compatible.
Verify that only TCP/IP is ticked.
Click on TCP/IP settings.
Make sure there is a dot in front of Server assigned IP address.
Tick Specify name server addresses.
The primary and secondary DNS and WINS servers become white, i.e. you can type in them.
Next to Primary DNS fill in: 196.25.1.1, and in Secondary DNS fill in: 196.25.1.9.
Both primary and secondary WINS should be 0.0.0.0
Make sure that both Use IP header compression and Use gateway on remote network are ticked.
Click on Ok, and again on Ok.
Windows is now set-up to connect to Atlantic. All that is left to do, is to connect for the first time
Click on Ok, and again on Ok.
You should now again be back in the Dial-Up Networking window.
Double-click on @lantic.
In the User name area type your dial-up username as supplied on your Atlantic contract, for example:

In the Password area type the supplied dial-up password on the Atlantic contract.
Tick Save password.
Click on Connect.
A window will appear, that states Status: Dialing…
You might hear the modem dialing.
After a few seconds the window will state: Status: Verifying user name and password…
The window disappears…
congratulations you're connected onto the Atlantic network!
You may now open your browser and surf on the Internet.
To disconnect from Atlantic: Double-click on the two little flickering computers next to the time at the bottom right hand of your screen.
An information window appears, click on Disconnect.
There you go, now that hopefully wasn't too difficult.
