KykNet's Idols programme, the Afrikaans version of the mega-popular
Idols show, finished on the evening of 27th August, with @lantic, the consumer-focused ISP in the AltX-listed DataPro group stable - and a co-sponsor of the show - announcing that it will sponsor the Idols winner and semi-finalists with Internet connectivity, personalised web pages and e-mail services for the next year. The participants also enjoyed connectivity for the duration of the competition.
The company also supplied laptops to all semi-finalists, which kept
them connected during the competition - as well as using them for updating blogs and sending and receiving e-mails, said
Dederick Venter, marketing manager at @lantic,
The winner of the first 'Afrikaans Idols' was 20-year-old Dewald
Louw from Bloemfontein. Runners-up were Willem Botha (19) from Riversdal and Alzonia Titus (19) from Groot Brakrivier.
Venter said said the bulk of the company's 40 000 client base is
Afrikaans, so "Idols was a perfect choice for us. We reached a large
part of our client base by becoming a sponsor of Kyknet's Idols show, which pulled some impressive ratings."
The Kyknet-run show had viewers glued to their screens
for the past three months.
In terms of its sponsorship @lantic also ran a rotating banner
advert on the show's web-site. In addition, any photos sent,by request, to viewers, included an @Lantic logo.
@lantic is also a long-time sponsor of the Pumas rugby team, who are competing in the Currie Cup this season. |
